„uintent incorporated its human factors engineering and usability expertise into our project and our drug-device combination product design in a noticeably positive way, so that we ended up with a very good result for our patients. uintent responded very flexibly to input and took it into account in a goal-oriented and effective way when planning the study. The documentation for the HFE study was professional and, in our opinion, fully compliant with regulatory requirements.“

Improving Membership UX - A Heuristic Expert Review
Industry
Industry 4.0
Method
Expert review
Duration
2 days
Background
egis-energie is a regional energy cooperative enabling citizens to invest in renewable energy.
To support their mission of growing membership, we conducted a UX expert review of the website, especially of their start page, membership page and declaration of membership, to identify opportunities for improving clarity, guidance, and digital accessibility throughout the user journey.
Approach
1. Heuristic Evaluation
We applied Jakob Nielsen’s 10 Usability Heuristics to assess core UX principles like visibility, consistency, error prevention, and user control.
2. Detailed UX Analysis Across Key Elements
In addition, we evaluated areas such as navigation & structure, mobile optimization and interactive elements
Outcome
The result of our review was a categorized list with detailed UX findings, highlighting concrete usability issues and improvement opportunities. Each identified finding was recorded and documented with its UX category (e.g., navigation, content clarity, visual hierarchy), Reference to Nielsen heuristic (where applicable), and a severity rating
Recommended actions included for example simplifying navigation and menu labels and step-by-step onboarding visuals.

Breaking Time Barriers: How Inclusive UX Supports Neurodiverse Users
Industry
Accessibility
Method
Contextual Inquiries, Usability test
Duration
3 weeks
Background
As part of our annual “UX for Good” initiative, we collaborated with Inclusys on an exciting user research project.
Inclusys is developing an innovative time management tool (smartwatch & tablet app) for people with autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, and other conditions. The goal was to find out how people with cognitive impairments, especially those with limited understanding of time, can be better supported in their daily time structuring, and how caregivers can be assisted in this process through the use of a tablet.
Approach
We conducted the study in Germany with n=4 participants together with their n=5 caregivers. Our methods were adapted to the specific needs of the target group and included:
Pair interviews & exploratory conversations
Classic usability tests & F2F interviews
Tests in the users' familiar environment
Each interview session lasted approximately 2 hours.
Outcome
We found multiple areas for improving the tablet app:
More target group-specific differentiation
Operating logic for caregivers + simplified view for those affected
Expansion of social functions & support for irregular processes

Addressing Usability Challenges in Therapeutic Technology: ichó Therapy Ball
Industry
Healthcare
Method
Contextual Inquiries
Duration
3 weeks
Background
The ichó therapy ball is designed for people with neurological conditions, e.g. dementia. Through interactive games, ichó offers a wide range of therapeutic support. Caregivers can control the games by remote control and patients can actively interact with the ball.
The team wanted to gain insights into the onboarding & setup process of ichó as well as the interaction with the new app to address problems early in the process.
Approach
To observe the setup process and app interaction in real-world we visited intended users at home (private household) or at their workplace (nurses in elderly homes)
Additionally, we conductedn=6 lab-based interviews
Participants were provided with the ichó, incl. Instructionsand asked to setup theball how they would usuallydo it.
Outcome
We found multiple areas for improvement with the instruction material and app interface., e.g.
Instructions should be available in paper and digital format.
The symbols on the remote control were sometimes confusing
A trial period for the ball was found to be extremely helpful
Users should be able create their own game collections
The app should provide clear recommendations on game selection.

Unifying HF Usability: Streamlining Processes Inside Departments
Industry
Healthcare
Method
Consulting, IDIs, Co-creation workshop
Duration
1.5 Years
Background
A large medical systems manufacturer with 5 different departments, all following different usability processes, wanted to streamline its usability processes. Historically, the different departments had been developing their usability processes in silos. Our task was to help our client build one usability process for all departments, based on the feedback and needs of each department.
Approach
We interviewed different types of stakeholders (UX/usability engineers, risk managers, developers, managers, etc.) to map out each departments' usability processes.
Afterwards, we facilitated several rounds of iteration workshops with stakeholders to refine early designs of a unified process for all departments and select the best approach.
Outcome
A final common usability process could be established, taking into account the requirements of all departments' stakeholders and the guidelines and regulations (FDA/IEC)
The common usability process was tested successfully during a pilot roject and the client decided to move forward and implement it across all departments.
