„Innen wie außen“ - A Podcast Series About Change, Responsibility and Self-Discovery
Tara Maria Bosenick is not only one of the founders of ReSight Global and uintent, but also a long-standing driving force in the UX industry in Germany. Her personal story is closely linked to the development of our company – from its beginnings as SirValUse, through her time at GfK, to the founding of uintent. In this special podcast series, Tara opens up her personal and professional archives: she talks about successes and doubts, repression and change, entrepreneurial turning points and her transition from male to female.
These stories are personal – and at the same time stories of change, courage and new beginnings. They show how identity and entrepreneurship are intertwined – and how both can grow.
After SirValUse was sold to GfK, a new phase began. Tim, the entrepreneur, became part of a corporation – and experienced both the advantages and the downsides of a large system. At the same time, he felt a growing desire for change, both professionally and personally. And out of this inner tension, something new emerged: ReSight Global – and later uintent.
From Hamburg to Chicago and back: UX goes global
The first few years at GfK are promising. The integration of SirValUse goes well initially, and the team remains stable. Tim drives forward the internationalisation of the UX unit, with locations in the USA, China, Japan, Russia and England. What was previously conceived as a network is now becoming a global organisation.
Exchanges with partners such as User Centric lead to new contacts and ideas. Together, they launch the global UX network ‘UX Alliance’. A vision becomes tangible: UX research from a single source, worldwide – not as a loose cooperation, but as a powerful unit.
Processes that slow everything down: when the organisation becomes an obstacle
But with GfK taking a majority stake, the course changes. Centralised processes from Nuremberg replace the pragmatic structures from Hamburg. Hourly billing? No chance. Travel planning? Cumbersome. Decisions? Lengthy.
Frustration grows – not only for Tim, but also within the team. While customer projects become increasingly international, internal flexibility decreases. ‘What used to be decided in two days suddenly took weeks,’ recalls Tim. For someone who likes to solve problems quickly and directly, this becomes a real burden.
The body pulls the ripcord: burnout as a turning point
In 2014, he had a breakdown. Tinnitus signalled what Tim had long been denying: this can't go on. After 14 years without a single day off sick, he took sick leave, spent time in hospital – and for the first time tried to really question things.
Withdrawal does not lead to peace, but brings other issues to the surface. Even though he is still years away from knowing about his own trans identity, the signs are becoming more visible. Disguises on business trips, buying women's shoes, constant inner pressure. But Tim doesn't have the words for it yet. Not yet.
New Zealand, self-doubt and a new beginning
A sabbatical in New Zealand brings rest and distance – but not complete clarity. The self-harm returns, despite therapy and the idyllic natural surroundings. The feeling remains: ‘Something is not right.’ Once again, work helps him to carry on.
Back in Hamburg, he takes on a new role at GfK – with a lot of frustration, but also the realisation that things cannot go on like this. Tim quits – this time for good – and suddenly finds himself responsible for creating something completely new.
Resight Global: The rebirth of an idea
Together with former colleagues from the USA and Germany, ReSight Global is born. The goal: an international UX structure without corporate logic – but with global aspirations. No cumbersome processes, no endless approvals. Instead, trust, proximity and local responsibility.
The German subsidiary uintent is created with a special structure: 49% of the shares belong to a cooperative that involves the employees. A return to old values – but reimagined.
And while much of the business is making sense again, there is still a lot going on inside. Tara is not yet visible – but the conditions under which she can emerge are slowly growing.
